Dark Point

Discover the Cultural and Natural Beauty of Dark Point

A visit to Dark Point is a must during your stay in Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest. Just north of Hawks Nest in the southern part of Myall Lakes National Park, this rocky headland holds deep cultural significance, having been a gathering place for the Worimi people for over 4,000 years. Declared an Aboriginal Site of Significance in 2002, it offers a powerful connection to the region’s history.

Follow the Dark Point walking track to the headland, where fresh coastal breezes and sweeping views across to Broughton Island await. As you take in the stunning scenery, you can imagine why this location was cherished for generations. The Worimi people would gather here in clan groups (nuras) to feast on the rich seafood of the area, leaving behind middens and traditional burial sites that serve as a reminder of their enduring presence.

Whether you’re exploring for its cultural significance or its breathtaking views, Dark Point is an unforgettable experience on your Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest getaway.
